Playing-wise, this song is about as simple as it gets, the bass only plays two notes, but the setup is worth noting. First of all, Phoenix pulled out a 5-string on this track (a rarity in the post-Meteora Linkin Park era), the low B string is also tuned down to an A. Second, there's a TON of distortion on the bass parts in this song (the exact pedal used on the recording was a Z-Vex Mastotron, which also became part of Phoenix's live rig on the A Thousand Suns tour). Anyway, about all the bass does in this song is supply some super-heavy low A notes during the choruses, then towards the end of the song it moves into a Bb-A half step pattern. There are quite a few spots where the bass doesn't do anything, which is probably why Phoenix supplies the majority of the backup vocals during this song (Chester would normally be the guy to back up Mike on his rap verses, but he's kept busy with the drum pad samples during the verses on this track).
